16 Traffic Personnel Transferred to Nagpur Police Headquarters Amid Extortion Complaints

Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil has ordered the transfer of 16 traffic branch personnel to the police headquarters following rising concerns over city traffic management and extortion allegations. Issued on October 23, the transfer orders have sparked significant discussion within local police circles.

The reassigned officers, previously posted across key traffic zones—including MIDC, Sadar, Sonegaon, Cotton Market, Kalamna, Pardi, Kamthi, Indora, Lakadganj, and Sitabuldi—have been relieved of their duties and instructed to report directly to headquarters.

The major reshuffle arrives amid widespread public dissatisfaction regarding severe traffic congestion, frequent rule violations, and the unauthorized entry of heavy vehicles into restricted zones. These ongoing issues have placed the efficiency of traffic regulation and enforcement across Nagpur under intense scrutiny.

Compounding these management challenges, several complaints alleging extortion by traffic branch personnel have surfaced in recent months. Internal discussions within the department suggest that confidential intelligence inputs likely played a role in prompt executive action.

Officially, however, the department has cited administrative reasons for the mass reassignment, with no specific evidence of individual misconduct detailed in the official transfer order.

This swift action highlights growing efforts to restore public accountability within Nagpur’s traffic division. It remains to be seen whether this administrative shake-up will translate into improved traffic regulation, stricter enforcement, and effective resolution of the extortion concerns raised by citizens.
