Three members of a family are feared trapped after a massive landslide buried their home in Patan village, Maval tehsil, during the early hours of Monday. The disaster followed torrential rainfall in the region, triggering three separate landslides in the remote village.
“One house was completely buried under debris, and it is suspected three people were inside at the time,” said Gajanan Tompe, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Lonavala division). Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and administration are currently conducting extensive rescue operations.
The heavy downpour has caused widespread disruption across Maval tehsil:
Bus Rescue: An NDRF team successfully rescued 37 passengers stranded in a private bus near Ghorawadi railway station due to severe waterlogging.
Expressway Status: A single lane on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway has been reopened for traffic heading toward Pune. However, the Mumbai-bound carriageway remains completely shut.
Old Highway Closed: Highway Police Superintendent Shivaji Pawar confirmed that the old Pune-Mumbai Highway is entirely closed due to deep waterlogging at multiple stretches.
