Man Attempts to Shoot Woman in Baner, Police Launch Search

Authorities are searching for a man in his twenties with a prior criminal record who allegedly tried to kill a woman by firing at her in Baner on Friday morning.The woman, also in her twenties, escaped unharmed and has filed a first information report (FIR) at the Baner police station.Police confirmed that both the woman and the accused are residents of Pimpri Chinchwad and are acquainted with each other.
According to officials, the woman works as an intern at a private company in Baner while pursuing an MBA. On the day of the incident, she was on her way to her workplace for the last day of her internship.Police suspect that the man, reportedly upset after an argument with the woman, began following her after she left home Friday morning. Around 10:30 a.m., he intercepted her near Ganraj Chowk in Baner.
The man allegedly tried to talk to her, but she refused. He then pointed a pistol at her and pulled the trigger, but the gun did not fire. As the woman shouted, bystanders rushed to her aid. The accused fled the scene before police arrived to investigate.Deputy Commissioner of Police Somay Munde confirmed both individuals are in their early twenties and know each other.
Senior Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant stated, “The accused attempted to fire at the woman, but the bullets did not discharge. The search for him is ongoing.”Police revealed the accused has a prior attempted murder case filed with Pimpri Chinchwad police. Investigators have obtained video evidence from CCTV cameras to aid in the search.
