Mankapur Flyover Lane Reopens After 125 Days of Closure

After being closed for 125 days, one lane of the Mankapur flyover was finally reopened to traffic late on the night of September 16–17, much to the relief of daily commuters. The lane had been shut following a tragic accident on September 12, when a collision between a school van and a school bus resulted in the loss of two lives. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had initially set a deadline of September 20 for reopening the lane, but the repair work was completed ahead of schedule.
Around four months ago, traffic on the busy 100-foot road was diverted to facilitate repair efforts. However, the restoration faced several delays that extended the closure period.Originally, the plan was to repair only a 10-meter damaged stretch of the flyover. But as the extent of the damage was reassessed, authorities decided to reconstruct the entire upper deck of the flyover. This involved laying four new steel plates to strengthen the structure.
The ongoing monsoon rains added to the challenges, causing further hold-ups since the concrete required proper curing, which was difficult under continuous wet conditions.Despite these setbacks, the repair and concreting work was eventually completed successfully. The reopening of the lane has significantly eased traffic congestion on this critical route, providing much-needed relief to commuters who rely on the flyover daily.
While the up lane has been restored and is now operational, the plastic dividers that were installed earlier on the down lane remain in place for now. Authorities have yet to remove these barriers, but the reopening marks an important step toward normalizing traffic flow on the Mankapur flyover after more than four months of disruption.
