Cashier Robbed of ₹8 Lakh in Broad-Daylight Chemical Attack on Sinhagad Road
A 42-year-old cashier employed at a liquor outlet near Dange Chowk was ambushed and robbed of over ₹8 lakh on Sunday on the service road along Sinhagad Road. Police confirmed the details of the incident on Tuesday.
Investigators suspect the heist was pre-planned, with the perpetrators likely tracking the cashier’s movements knowing he was transporting the day’s cash collection.
Modus Operandi & Details of the Heist
The Ambush: Four unidentified men riding two motorcycles intercepted the cashier on the service road in Narhe, blocking his path.
Chemical Attack: One of the assailants sprayed an unknown substance directly into the victim’s face, temporarily blinding and disorienting him.
The Escape: Taking advantage of the victim’s incapacitated state, the gang seized his motorcycle—which had a white bag containing ₹7,76,480 in cash stored in its rear compartment—and sped off.
Police Investigation & Legal Action
The total loss from the robbery is estimated at ₹8,06,480, comprising the stolen cash along with the victim’s motorcycle (valued at ₹30,000).
A formal complaint has been registered at the Nanded City police station under Sections 309(4) (robbery) and 3(5) (joint criminal liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials are currently scanning local CCTV footage and analyzing Call Detail Records (CDR) to identify and trace the suspects.
