Christmas Celebrations Lead to Traffic Diversions and Road Closures for Two Days in Pune Camp Area

The Pune City Traffic Police have announced traffic diversions and road closures in the Pune Camp area on Wednesday and Thursday evenings to manage the heavy crowds during Christmas celebrations. These measures will be in effect from 7 PM on both days and will continue until the crowds disperse, as per an order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav on Tuesday evening.

Every year, thousands of visitors from Pune and nearby regions flock to Pune Camp and the local churches on Christmas Eve and Christmas night. The bustling Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road, along with its adjoining lanes filled with eateries and shops, sees particularly heavy footfall during this time for festivities and shopping.

To manage traffic, vehicles coming from Y Junction towards MG Road will be stopped at 15 August Chowk and diverted via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk. Traffic from Iskon Temple heading towards Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue and Aurora Towers will be rerouted through SBI House Chowk, Teen Tofa Chowk, and Lashkar Police Station.

Vehicles traveling from Volga Chowk to Mohammed Rafi Chowk will be diverted via East Street and India Gandhi Chowk. Traffic from Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk will be redirected via Lashkar Police Station Chowk, while vehicles from Sarbatwala Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk will be routed through Taboot Street Chowk.
Traffic police teams, along with local police station personnel, will be deployed throughout Pune Camp and nearby areas to manage the crowds and ensure smooth traffic flow. The restrictions will exempt emergency service vehicles, including fire tenders, ambulances, police, and military vehicles on duty. Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us.
