Heavy Rains Provide Respite from Scorching Heat in Nagpur

After a day of relentless heat, late-night showers brought much-needed relief to Nagpur. On Wednesday, the city experienced monsoon-like rains after enduring rising temperatures throughout the day. While the Meteorological Department had issued an alert for strong winds and rain, the day remained sweltering, with several districts in Vidarbha recording significant temperature increases.

In Nagpur, despite cloudy skies during the day, the maximum temperature rose by 2.6°C, reaching 39.2°C. However, the weather took a sudden turn late at night. Starting at around 10:30 pm, multiple parts of the city witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. By 11:30 pm, the city had recorded 11.2 mm of rain, offering temporary relief from the stifling heat.

The downpour was accompanied by gusty winds, which caused power outages in some areas of the city. Tree branches were seen swaying precariously, and several roads experienced waterlogging, disrupting traffic late into the night. Despite the challenges, the rain helped alleviate the humid conditions that had built up during the evening.

Weather Alert for Rain and Strong Winds

According to the Meteorological Department, an alert for rain and strong winds remains in place across Vidarbha on Thursday, April 2, 2026. The sudden weather change is attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh, combined with a trough extending from Bihar through Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to Madhya Maharashtra.

The department has forecast thunderstorms with strong winds to continue over the next four days. Farmers in the region have been advised to remain cautious as the weather conditions could impact crops and agricultural activities.
