High Alert in Pune Amid Indo-Pak Tensions; Security Tightened at Key Spots Including Airport & Dagdusheth Temple

In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a high alert has been declared in Pune, prompting heightened security measures at several key locations throughout the city, including Pune Airport, the National Defence Academy (NDA), and Pune Air Force Station.Additional safety protocols have been implemented at popular gathering spots such as the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple, Sarasbaug Ganpati Temple, and the Swargate bus depot, among others, to ensure the safety of large crowds.In an interview with 
The Free Press Journal, Sanjay Suryawanshi, a member of the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust, remarked, “Security forces have been increased amid the tensions between India and Pakistan. Approximately 30 percent more security personnel have been deployed compared to normal days.” He noted that the security staff is on high alert as foot traffic at the temple tends to rise over the weekend.

Devotee Raghuveer Pote added, “The Dagdusheth temple is a key location in Pune, and security has been heightened since Thursday night. Devotees are not allowed to linger for extended periods. However, there is no need to panic; the measures taken are precautionary. 

Pune, known as an educational and IT hub, is also home to at least 10 defense institutions, including the Ordnance Factory in Khadki and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which underscores the importance of ramping up security during this time.Ankush Chavhan, Public Relations Officer at the Southern Division of the Ministry of Defence in Pune, stated, “Pune is currently on orange alert, indicating a high probability of a serious security threat or disaster, though the situation is not critical yet. The measures implemented during this alert include increased security, advising the public to remain vigilant, and preparing for an emergency response.”
