Horrific Midnight Accident Near Pune’s Navale Bridge: Biker Crushed to Death as Speeding Cement Mixer Truck Topples

A 31-year-old motorcyclist was tragically killed on the spot shortly after midnight on Wednesday after a speeding cement mixer truck lost control, overturned, and crushed his two-wheeler. The horrific accident took place around 12:30 AM near Pulse Hospital at Navale Bridge, a notorious and accident-prone “black spot” located in the Narhe area along the Katraj-Bavdhan route.
Fatal Collision at a Dangerous Bend
According to officials from the Narhe police station, the 16-tyre heavy cement mixer truck was traveling from Katraj toward Bavdhan. As the vehicle was negotiating a sharp turn near the Navale Chowk intersection, the driver abruptly lost control of the heavy machinery.
The massive truck toppled over onto its side and crashed directly onto a Honda Shine motorcycle traveling alongside it. The rider, completely pinned under the weight of the overturned truck, had no chance of escape and died instantly from the impact.
The victim was identified as Rameshwar Machhindra Bhogale (31). While originally a resident of the Sangvi village in the Beed district, he was currently residing in the Waghjai Nagar area of Katraj.
The truck driver, identified as Gorakh Laxman Ransure (50), a resident of Loni Kalbhor, escaped with minor head injuries. He was immediately detained and shifted to Sassoon General Hospital for medical tests and treatment.
Clean-Up Operations and Ongoing Risk Factors
The impact of the heavy vehicle’s crash initially caused a severe traffic bottleneck on the Bengaluru-Mumbai corridor of the highway bypass. Narhe police personnel quickly rushed to the scene with heavy cranes to lift the overturned cement mixer, extricate the victim’s body, and remove the damaged vehicles to successfully restore traffic flow. Police Inspector Ishwar Chavan confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated, and a formal case is being registered against the driver for rash and negligent driving.
A History of Tragedies at Navale Bridge:
The Navale Bridge stretch has long been feared as one of Pune’s deadliest road patches. Due to a steep 7-kilometer downward slope stretching from the New Katraj Tunnel to the bridge, heavy vehicles frequently suffer from brake failures or lose control due to high momentum. Government safety committees continue to monitor the location, where major multi-vehicle pileups over the last few years have claimed dozens of lives.
