Mission-Mode Drive: Pune Industrial Areas to Achieve 100% PNG Coverage

Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant has announced a new mission-mode initiative to ensure that all industries within the Pune Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas receive piped natural gas (PNG) connections. During a high-level review meeting at the Pune district collector’s office, the Minister emphasized that a continuous and reliable energy supply is critical for maintaining industrial productivity. The state plans to adopt a “connection on demand” approach to ensure no business faces hurdles due to a lack of infrastructure.
To support this transition, the government is coordinating with gas distribution companies and local administration to organize special camps. These camps are designed to simplify the application process, speed up technical inspections, and resolve any pending cases immediately. Minister Samant noted that shifting to natural gas provides a cost-effective, safe, and eco-friendly alternative for local factories. Additionally, the government is cracking down on the black marketing of LPG and has urged citizens to report any illegal activity via the 112 emergency helpline.
The meeting also highlighted significant plans for renewable energy and infrastructure. Under a new policy, MIDC land will be made available to industries on 30-year leases specifically for setting up solar power projects. This move aims to help businesses reduce electricity costs and move toward energy self-sufficiency. Furthermore, approximately ₹350 crore has been allocated for strengthening internal roads within the MIDC, alongside plans for new truck terminals and improved sanitation facilities in hubs like Hinjewadi and Chakan.
In response to concerns raised by small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) regarding financial stress, the Minister assured that the state is considering relief measures. This includes a potential extension for electricity bill payments, which will be discussed with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. To ensure smooth communication moving forward, dedicated WhatsApp groups will be created for each industrial zone, connecting business owners directly with police and administration officials for quick problem-solving.
