MPSC Student Protest: Thousands March to Pune Collector’s Office Demanding Removal of Commission Chairman

Thousands of competitive exam aspirants gathered in Pune today to protest against the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) following alleged examination paper leaks and recruitment irregularities. Carrying banners and shouting slogans, the students organized a massive rally starting from the Omkareshwar Temple at 10:30 AM, marching directly toward the Pune District Collectorate to press for their demands.

Prominent political figures, including Member of Parliament Supriya Sule and Member of Legislative Assembly Rohit Pawar, joined the student demonstration in solidarity. Protesting candidates expressed deep anger over the security lapses, stating that impoverished students dedicate years of hard work to these competitive exams. The agitating students demanded the immediate resignation and removal of the MPSC Chairman and Secretary, requesting a comprehensive investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into their personal assets and potential involvement as co-accused in the examination rigging scandal.

While Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently met with student and teacher representatives to discuss the situation, student leaders stated the agitation will continue. Competitive exam tutor Kiran Nimbhore confirmed that promises alone would not stop the movement, emphasizing that protests will persist until the primary demand of removing the commission’s top leadership is met.

Addressing the media, MLA Vikram Pachpute noted that the state government maintains a positive stance toward resolving student concerns through dialogue. However, he clarified that because the MPSC functions as an autonomous body with presidential appointments made by the Governor, the state government cannot directly dismiss the chairman without formal inquiry procedures. He added that if investigations prove wrongdoing, immediate action will follow, while urging officials to consider resigning on moral grounds.
