Nagpur Bars and Clubs Allowed to Stay Open Till 5 AM both on Christmas and New Year’s Eve

The state’s nightlife is set for a festive boost as the home department has granted permission for hotels, clubs, permit rooms, and beer bars to operate until 5 AM on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Normally, these venues must close by 1:30 AM.This extension aims to ease crowd congestion and accommodate the expected surge in celebrations and tourist activity during the year-end festive season.
At the same time, retail liquor outlets received partial relaxation—wine shops and country liquor bars can now remain open until 1 AM instead of the usual 10:30 PM closing time.Welcoming the decision, Jimmy Shaw, president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India), representing over 2,000 star hotels and premium bars, said the move would help manage guest expectations, enable smoother crowd dispersal, create more employment opportunities, and enhance Maharashtra’s reputation as a vibrant and safe tourism destination.
Officials emphasized that the relaxation will be strictly contingent on compliance with law-and-order protocols, noise control regulations, and safety guidelines. Police have been instructed to increase patrolling around major nightlife areas to prevent drunk driving and maintain public order.Amit Kumar Sharma, former president of the Poona Hoteliers Association, called the decision balanced and thoughtful, supporting the hospitality industry while safeguarding law and order.
Hotel and restaurant owners praised the advance announcement, highlighting that it removes last-minute uncertainties. Vikram Shetty, director of Sadanand Resorts and Sadanand Regency, noted that clear permissions allow better event planning, efficient staff deployment, and ensure compliance, creating transparency for both operators and law enforcement.Abhishek Sahai, general manager of Conrad Pune, echoed these sentiments, saying the relaxation encourages festive celebrations and boosts business, while underscoring the need for authorities to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all attendees.
