Nagpur Bomb Threat Emails Traced to Bangladesh and France; ATS, NIA Join Investigation

The investigation into the series of bomb threat emails that targeted 16 schools, the District Court, the Mayor’s office, and the District Collectorate in Nagpur has taken an international turn. Preliminary findings by the cyber branch have traced the digital origin of the 19 threatening emails to two locations in Bangladesh and one in France, revealing a foreign network behind the operation.

Given that the threat emails invoked Khalistani outfits and specifically referenced the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)—whose national headquarters is located in Nagpur—the probe has been escalated. Both the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have formally requested case details from the Nagpur Police Commissionerate to run parallel investigations.

Key Security Measures and Investigation Updates

Some of the key elements of the email issue can be summed up in the following ways:

International Digital Trail: Cyber experts are conducting detailed email-header and Internet Service Provider (ISP) analyses to trace the senders through the foreign IP addresses used in Bangladesh and France.

Alert Status Until August 31: Because the threat specifically cited August 31 as a targeted date, all 19 institutions will remain under heightened security protocols through the end of the month.

School Safety Directives: Educational institutions have been instructed to enforce strict visitor screening, maintain daily CCTV system checks, and monitor campus perimeters for suspicious activity.

On-Site Re-Inspections: Senior police officials revisited the affected schools and administrative centers to review security measures and brief principals and staff on emergency procedures.

Authorities continue to work alongside central agencies to verify the authenticity of the claims, while cyber teams pursue global digital logs to unmask the perpetrators behind the hoax.
