Nagpur FDA Intensifies Crackdown on Chinese Food Stalls After 120+ Complaints

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Nagpur has launched an aggressive enforcement campaign across the city, putting local Chinese food stalls and street-food vendors directly in its crosshairs. Following a sharp increase in regulatory actions under Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, officials have signaled that inspections will intensify further starting Monday.

Over the past month, the department has received more than 120 consumer complaints regarding food safety and sanitation. Inspectors have already investigated 47 of these cases, with approximately 30 additional locations currently under active scrutiny. Key violations identified during recent raids include the widespread use of unhygienic utensils and improper food handling practices.

Alongside hygiene checks, FDA officials are verifying whether vendors possess valid food business licenses. “Action has been underway against restaurant-category establishments for the past few days. We are now going to increase the scale of this crackdown,” said Krishna Jaipurkar, Joint Commissioner of Food for Nagpur. Non-compliant vendors face immediate administrative actions as the drive expands across all city zones.
