Nagpur Graduates’ Constituency MLC Election: Vote Counting Underway at Mankapur Stadium

Counting of votes for the Maharashtra Legislative Council election from the Nagpur Division Graduates’ Constituency commenced at 8:00 AM today, October 27, at the Mankapur Indoor Stadium in Nagpur. The election administration has finalized all arrangements, setting up 84 tables under comprehensive security protocols to manage the process.

Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Vijayalakshmi Bidari confirmed that over 400 officials and staff members have been deployed for the counting operations. The second phase of training for counting personnel was completed on Monday under the supervision of Election Observer Dr. Harshdeep Kamble. Heavy police forces have been stationed at the Mankapur venue to maintain law and order throughout the proceedings.

Polling took place on October 23 across 445 polling stations spanning six districts: Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli. Out of 2,55,603 registered voters, 1,65,672 cast their votes, registering an overall turnout of 64.82 percent. A total of 38 candidates are competing for the seat.

Because the election was conducted using ballot papers under the preferential voting system, the counting involves initial sorting, scrutiny of ballot papers, verification of valid votes, and tabulating first-preference votes. Officials noted that the counting process is expected to take considerable time due to the complexities of preferential voting. If no candidate secures the mandatory quota of first-preference votes in the initial phase, additional rounds involving the elimination of candidates and transfer of preferential votes will proceed according to election guidelines.

The administration has thoroughly reviewed all logistics at the stadium, including table setups, seating for candidates and counting agents, strong room security, parking, and strict access controls. Official results will be declared once all mandatory counting stages and preference transfers are concluded.
