Nagpur Police Ban Modified DJ, Dolby, and High-Powered Sound Systems During Festive Season

Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil has issued strict prohibitory orders restricting the operation of modified vehicles equipped with high-powered sound systems across the city during the upcoming festive season. The directive has been enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

According to the official notification released by the police commissionerate, the ban came into effect at midnight on September 3 and will remain active until 11:45 PM on November 1, 2026. This comprehensive timeframe covers major upcoming religious festivals and public celebrations, including Ganeshotsav, Eid-e-Milad, Navratri, Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali.

Under the new regulations, authorities have prohibited the deployment of modified vehicles fitted with Dolby sound systems, multi-speaker top/mid/bass arrangements, plasma sound setups, pressure-horn-based systems, and other high-intensity amplified audio equipment during immersion processions and public events. Owners of modified vehicles have been instructed to restore them to their original factory condition and refrain from using them to transport or power commercial sound systems throughout the restricted period.

The police order highlights that unregulated, high-decibel sound equipment causes severe noise pollution, poses health hazards to senior citizens and patients, and increases the risk of law-and-order disruptions during large gatherings. The restrictions align with environmental guidelines outlined in the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. However, law enforcement officials clarified that standard sound systems operating within the permissible decibel limits authorized under noise control regulations will be permitted.

The prohibitory order applies uniformly across the entire jurisdiction of the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate. Officials warned that individuals or event organizers violating these guidelines will face legal prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
