NMC Completes Three EV Charging Stations Following Live Nagpur’s Report on Shortage

After Live Nagpur highlighted the shortage of EV charging facilities, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken swift action to address the issue. On October 11, one of NMC’s electric buses (MH 31 FC 6593) was stranded near the Swami Vivekanand Memorial for nearly 12 hours due to a completely discharged battery, remaining idle from 1 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
This caused significant inconvenience to passengers and motorists, underscoring the urgent need for adequate charging infrastructure. In response, the NMC administration has completed three out of the 11 EV charging stations planned under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. These new stations are now operational at:

  • Rahate Colony Square
  • Parking area near Patrakar Bhavan
  • Wadi Naka on Amravati Road near Yashwant Stadium

All three facilities are currently open for public use.Following directions from Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, work on the remaining eight charging stations is being fast-tracked. Once fully functional, this expanded network will support not only electric buses but also two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheeler EV owners. Officials hope this development will prevent incidents like the recent bus standstill caused by the lack of charging points.

Construction is progressing quickly at additional locations including Jaytala Bazaar Square, Dayanand Park, near Futala Road Police Chowki, Shantinagar, behind Anjuman College at Mangalwari Complex, and Central Bazaar Road. Citizens have urged NMC to complete the remaining stations promptly to ensure smooth, uninterrupted operation of the city’s growing electric vehicle fleet.
