NMC Proposes ₹5,541 Crore Budget for 2026–27 Focused on Urban Infrastructure Enhancement

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has presented a ₹5,541.31 crore budget for the financial year 2026–27, prioritizing the strengthening of urban infrastructure and improvement of civic amenities citywide. The budget was unveiled by Municipal Commissioner Vipin Itankar.Key plans include upgrading essential services such as road construction, water supply, drainage, public health facilities, and solid waste management. The financial blueprint also supports ongoing urban development initiatives aimed at elevating the quality of municipal services.

For 2026–27, the corporation anticipates total revenue of ₹5,541.31 crore. This budget has been prepared following the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and incorporates revised estimates for the 2025–26 fiscal year.In 2025–26, NMC projects a net income of ₹4,702.75 crore, supplemented by an opening balance of ₹698.87 crore, bringing total revised income to ₹5,401.62 crore. Estimated expenditure for the year is ₹5,085.63 crore.Looking ahead, the proposed expenditure for 2026–27 stands at ₹5,840.65 crore.
Of this, ₹4,358.56 crore is earmarked for administrative and development activities, while ₹1,482.09 crore is dedicated to water supply and sewerage projects.Public transport also receives attention, with ₹170 crore allocated for the transport department in 2025–26 and a proposed ₹160 crore for the next financial year.
Approximately ₹3,889.48 crore of the projected revenue is expected from NMC’s internal sources, with the remaining ₹1,651.83 crore anticipated as grants from state and central governments.The budget will next undergo scrutiny by the Standing Committee before being submitted to the corporation’s general body for final approval.
