NMC Warns of FIRs Against Officials and Institutions Obstructing Census Work

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar has issued a stern warning of strict legal and disciplinary action—including the registration of First Information Reports (FIRs)—against any institutions or administrative officials found delaying or obstructing the city’s ongoing census operations. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting convened at the Commissioner’s Conference Hall on Monday.

Emphasizing that the census is a task of paramount national importance, Dr. Itankar directed all schools, educational institutions, and government departments to immediately relieve employees assigned to census duties on time. He made it clear that any documented negligence or administrative delay would invite immediate show-cause notices and severe disciplinary action against the responsible heads of institutions.

Strict Crackdown on Duty Evasion and Unauthorized Cancellations

The civic administration has taken note of a growing trend where designated personnel are attempting to bypass their census responsibilities through external recommendations and political influence rather than reporting for training or field duty.

To curb this practice, the NMC Commissioner established strict administrative boundaries, While going for Zero Local Discretion which says that No Charge Officer or Assistant Commissioner holds the authority to cancel or reassign the duty of any enumerator or supervisor on their own. It has Mandatory Higher Clearence which claims that any modification or exemption from census duty now strictly requires prior, formal approval from senior municipal authorities.

10-Day Deadline Issued for Completion

Driving home the need for rapid execution, the Commissioner instructed all nodal officers and Assistant Commissioners to personally oversee operations and guarantee 100 percent completion of the census work within the next 10 days. Dr. Itankar reiterated that any operational laxity, unexcused absence, or unauthorized cancellation of duties during this critical window will be met with immediate penal action under established service rules.
