PMPML Plans to Add 10 More Double-Decker Electric Buses Following Successful Passenger Trials

Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is gearing up to introduce ten new double-decker electric buses in Pune after successful trial runs on four major city routes, officials announced on Friday. The PMPML board is set to review the formal proposal in their upcoming meeting, after which a final decision will be made regarding acquiring these buses on lease. This move aims to enhance urban mobility and improve public transportation, PMPML officials said. Each double-decker bus is priced at approximately ₹2 crore, making the total estimated cost for ten buses around ₹20 crore.
However, PMPML plans to lease these vehicles rather than purchase them outright. The recent pilot runs involved actual passengers and garnered positive feedback, indicating readiness for broader deployment. The PMPML board, consisting of representatives from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, PMRDA, CIRT, and the Regional Transport Office, will make the final call on the proposal.Once approved, Pune commuters can look forward to these high-capacity, modern buses designed to ease congestion and improve convenience on key city routes. The new double-decker electric buses, manufactured by Switch Mobility, offer seating for 65 passengers and can carry up to 85, including standing passengers.
