Great news for Maharashtra rail passengers! The Pune-Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat Express has officially received approval from the Ministry of Railways, and the Central Railway Board has begun planning for its operations, with the launch anticipated within the next month.The proposal was greenlit during a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Satish Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Railway Board, held on Monday.
The meeting reviewed progress on various projects under the Central and Western Railway zones, including Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat Express trains, as well as station redevelopment initiatives.Swapnil Neela, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Mumbai, shared, “Discussions on launching the Pune-Nagpur-Pune Vande Bharat Express have been initiated by the ministry. After route surveys and technical evaluations by senior officials, the train schedule will be finalized soon.”
Currently, the Ministry of Railways is conducting technical assessments and on-site route inspections through its engineering department and senior officials to ensure smooth operations.The Central Railway zone experiences heavy passenger traffic from western Maharashtra to the state’s northeastern regions. Thousands commute daily between Pune and cities like Akola, Amravati, and Nagpur. The demand for a Vande Bharat train on this route has been pending for over two years.
Responding to this, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured that the service will commence shortly and directed the Railway Board to advance the proposal.At present, Pune is connected through the Vande Bharat Express to Solapur, Kolhapur, and Hubballi, making the new Pune-Nagpur service a significant addition for travelers in the region.
