Pune Police Seek Cancellation of Vishal Agarwal’s Bail; Defense Claims Viral Video is From 2023

The Pune Police have officially approached the Shivajinagar sessions court seeking the cancellation of bail granted to real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, the father of the minor driver involved in the fatal May 2024 Kalyani Nagar Porsche crash. The aggressive legal move comes weeks after a video allegedly showing Agarwal lavishly celebrating his release went viral on social media, sparking widespread public outrage.

The application, moved through Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hire, argues that Agarwal violated the strict terms laid down by the Supreme Court. The matter is scheduled to come up for a crucial hearing on Tuesday.

The Viral Video and Witness Intimidation Concerns

The controversy erupted when footage surfaced online showing Agarwal dancing cheerfully with his wife and son at a restaurant with live music in the background.

Taking serious note of the clip, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar initiated legal action, securing immediate clearance from the state law department to file for bail cancellation. According to the prosecution, such a public display of celebration by an influential accused could severely intimidate case witnesses and disrupt the judicial process.

Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hire stated:

“The purported celebration after the grant of bail cannot be viewed lightly. There is a distinct possibility of witnesses coming under pressure. We will point out before the court that the conditions imposed by the Supreme Court have been breached.”

Defense Counter-Claim: “Video is From a 2023 Anniversary”

The Agarwal family and their legal team have strongly rubbished the police’s claims, asserting that the viral video is old and entirely unrelated to his recent release.

In an official statement, Vishal Agarwal clarified that the footage was recorded in 2023 during his 25th wedding anniversary celebrations at a hotel in Goa, where he was accompanied by his wife, Shivani, and close family friends.

The police have already recorded detailed statements from both Vishal and Shivani Agarwal regarding the timeline of the clip and are expected to submit their digital forensic evidence before the sessions court.
