Pune Rains: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued as Showers Continue Across Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Ratnagiri and Raigad districts in Maharashtra, warning of heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, a yellow alert remains in place for the ghat regions of Pune district, along with similar warnings for Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha, valid until Thursday, according to the Times of India.Officials shared that conditions are becoming favorable for the southwest monsoon to begin withdrawing from parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Gujarat in the coming days.
The current rain spell is linked to a low-pressure system over north Telangana and adjoining Vidarbha, extending into south Madhya Maharashtra. This system is expected to sustain widespread rainfall across large parts of Maharashtra in the days ahead.

Steady Showers in Pune

Pune city and its surrounding areas experienced intermittent rain from Saturday night through Sunday. Heavy downpours, accompanied by lightning and thunder, lashed several parts of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Chinchwad recorded the highest rainfall at 69mm between Saturday morning and Sunday evening. Other localities reported lighter amounts: Shivajinagar (13.8mm), Talegaon (15mm), Hadapsar (13.5mm), and Magarpatta (10mm). Many other areas saw only light showers.The rains have positively impacted Pune’s water reservoirs. Varasgaon received 21mm of rain, Panshet 20mm, and Temghar 3mm. Combined storage in the four key dams currently stands at 29.09 TMC, nearly 100% of their total capacity.

Mumbai: Red Alert and Weather Forecast

In Mumbai, the IMD issued a red alert on Monday morning after heavy overnight rains. Mumbai, along with Thane and Raigad, faced intense downpours lasting three hours, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph.Mumbai is expected to see continued rainfall throughout the week, with temperatures dropping to around 24.5°C. Showers will persist on Tuesday, though slightly lighter, followed by scattered rains on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday and Friday currently appear most favorable for outdoor activities, but authorities advise residents to remain cautious as rain may reduce visibility and disrupt travel plans.
