Tensions Rise Over Hit-and-Run Incident Involving Yogesh Bopche

Tensions escalated on June 14, Saturday, as the family of Yogesh Tulsiram Bopche, a 29-year-old who died in a hit-and-run incident in Chinchbhuvan, protested outside the Beltarodi Police Station. They demanded the immediate arrest of Avantikumar Kothari, the individual booked in connection with the case.
As per reports, Kothari, the registered owner of the BMW (HP 89 A 1592) who fatally struck Bopche and critically injured his relative Bhojendra Khobragade (55) on June 9, was located by police on Friday. However, citing technicalities from a Supreme Court ruling, authorities stated that Kothari could not be arrested at this time, igniting further outrage among Bopche’s family.
On the other hand, Bopche, a laborer and the family’s sole breadwinner, succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS. He is survived by his wife and two young sons, aged five years and five months. His family, supported by local residents, accused the police of protecting Kothari due to his financial influence.
As far as the luxury vehicle is concenred,, it was purchased from a dealer in Mumbai and registered in Kothari’s name, which was however, discovered abandoned near the accident site, with liquor bottles found inside, raising suspicions of possible drunk driving. Police managed to trace Kothari through alternate call records after he and his family reportedly fled the city following the incident.
Authorities have emphasized that the case is currently under legal review. The victim’s family and community members continue to demand justice, calling for Kothari’s arrest and expressing their frustration over what they perceive as a lack of accountability. The situation remains tense, with protests ongoing as the family seeks answers and justice for their tragic loss.
