Viral Incident in Pune: Locals Worship Gulmohar Tree Believed to Emit Holy Water

A recent incident in Pune’s Pimpri-Chinchwad area has gone viral, drawing attention to locals worshipping a Gulmohar tree in Premlok Park. The tree became a focal point when water began flowing from its trunk, leading many to believe it was emitting holy water with healing properties.
Residents gathered outside the Sahara Society, treating the tree as sacred and offering flowers, turmeric, and vermilion. Convinced of its medicinal benefits, many collected the water in bottles. The surge of faith attracted large crowds, with locals claiming it was a divine miracle. Some even described the tree as “crying” or releasing “amritdhara” (holy water) with healing powers.
However, an investigation by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials revealed that the so-called “miracle water” was actually a leakage from an old underground pipeline. According to local reports, PCMC officials confirmed that a burst water pipeline beneath the tree was the source of the flowing water. The authorities promptly shut off the water supply and initiated repair work, all while leaving the tree intact.
A video of the incident circulated online, shared by a user on X, who wrote, “Seeing water coming from a tree in the vicinity of Pimpri Chinchwad, citizens began worshipping it with garlands, flowers, turmeric, and saffron. Later, informed citizens alerted the municipal corporation, and during the inspection, it was revealed that the water pipeline under the tree had burst.”

Netizens’ Reactions

The video sparked widespread criticism and debate on social media, with many users expressing concern over the rise of superstition in urban areas. Some notable comments included:

  • Lack of Scientific Awareness: “How can we progress as a nation if these kinds of things still happen in 2025?”
  • Urban Superstition: “If only we pursued education, infrastructure, and healthcare with the same urgency we chase miracles.”
  • Need for Awareness: “Superstition seems to be increasing in urban areas more than in rural ones. What could be the reason?”
This incident underscores the need for scientific awareness and regular infrastructure maintenance in urban settings. While faith and spirituality are significant facets of many cultures, it’s crucial to approach such phenomena with a critical and informed perspective.
