Pune is set to experience warmer nights in the coming days as minimum temperatures begin to climb, signaling a clear shift toward the end of winter. Weather experts attribute this change to multiple active weather systems across India, causing noticeable fluctuations in both minimum and maximum temperatures.Recent data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stations in Pune show a sharp rise in minimum temperatures over a short span. At Shivajinagar, the minimum temperature rose from 15.1°C on January 29—3.8°C above normal—to 18.2°C on January 30, which is 6.9°C above normal.
Lohegaon recorded an even more significant variation, with a minimum of 19.6°C, 8.3°C above normal—the highest temperature departure across Maharashtra on that day, according to IMD officials.Other parts of Pune also witnessed unusually warm nights. Chinchwad and Magarpatta logged minimum temperatures of 21.5°C and 21.4°C, respectively, while Koregaon Park recorded 20.9°C. These figures mark the highest minimum temperatures in these areas since November 2025.
On January 30, Pune’s overall minimum temperature stood at 18°C, above the seasonal average. The IMD forecasts a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 3 to 4 days for Maharashtra, indicating warmer nights ahead for Pune and surrounding regions.Meteorologists explain that this temperature increase is linked to several large-scale weather systems currently influencing the country. According to the IMD’s January 30 bulletin, a western disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation persists over northeast Iran at mid-tropospheric levels.
At the same time, a subtropical westerly jet stream with core winds near 110 knots at around 12.6 km altitude is active over northwest India. There are also upper-air cyclonic circulations over the south Kerala coast and the Comorin region in the lower troposphere. The combined effect of these systems has contributed to the steady rise in minimum temperatures across Maharashtra.S D Sanap, senior meteorologist at IMD Pune, noted that Pune will mostly enjoy clear skies over the next 48 hours, though partial cloud cover may develop in the afternoons or evenings. “Foggy conditions are also expected in some areas during early mornings,” he added.
