Woman Who Returned from London for MBA Found Dead in Pune Apartment; Police Launch Probe

A 34-year-old woman from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, who had moved to London to pursue an MBA but returned to India without informing her family, was found dead in a rented apartment in Pune on Wednesday. Police have identified the deceased as Mugdha Deshmukh and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of her death.

The victim had moved to London in July 2025 to pursue higher studies while working part-time jobs, maintaining regular contact with her parents. However, after October 24, her phone became unreachable. Following a inquiry initiated through a London-based friend, the London police revealed on October 26 that Deshmukh had departed the UK in August. Concerns escalated when her family examined her bank statements, which revealed local online payments made to services including Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, and MakeMyTrip between October 8 and October 25.

Acting on a missing person and kidnapping complaint filed by her father, Avinash Deshmukh, at the Osmanpura police station, investigating officers traced her food delivery log history on Zomato. The location data led authorities to the plush Lodha Belmondo housing society in Pune’s Gahunje area.

Upon arriving at the apartment alongside Pimpri Chinchwad police, officers found the main door locked from the inside. After gaining entry using alternate keys, they discovered Deshmukh’s body. Preliminary findings indicate she had rented the flat around April and had been residing there secretly since August or September while teaching online MBA courses.

An accidental death report has been registered at the Shirgaon police station. Senior Police Inspector Devendra Chavan stated that the initial postmortem report revealed no visible injury marks on the body. Authorities have preserved her viscera for chemical analysis as medical reports remain awaited. Police are continuing their probe to establish the cause of death and determine why she concealed her return to India from her family.
