3 Injured at Shivneri Fort on Shivaji Jayanti; No Stampede, Clarify Pune Rural Police

Three people sustained injuries in a crowding incident at Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Junnar taluka, Pune district, early Thursday morning. Pune Rural police clarified that there was no stampede, despite thousands gathering to celebrate the 396th birth anniversary of the legendary king.Speaking to the media,
Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Pune Rural Police, explained, “Since yesterday morning, large crowds have been arriving at Shivneri Fort for Shivjanmotsav. People gathered even during the night hours.”He added, “A group of around 15 to 20 people carrying a ‘jyoti’ (firelight) were descending hurriedly near Meena Darwaja when police officers asked them to slow down.
One person slipped and fell, causing a few others to lose balance on the narrow stairs. Three people were injured, but all are now fit and fine. There was no stampede. The situation remains normal and under control.”Shivneri Fort is a significant historic site in Pune district, attracting large crowds every year on February 19 for “Shivjayanti,” marking Shivaji Maharaj’s birth anniversary.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, along with other ministers and top politicians, traditionally visits the fort on this occasion.To ensure safety and maintain law and order amid the large gatherings, a substantial police presence was deployed at Shivneri Fort and surrounding areas.
