A five-year-old girl tragically lost her life in a leopard attack early Wednesday morning in Pimpalsuti village, located in Pune district’s Shirur taluka. The victim, identified as Bhagyashree Sandeep Ware, was sleeping alongside her parents in a cattle shelter next to their home when the incident occurred around 2:45 AM. Her parents, who work as local farm laborers, immediately raised an alarm and gave chase, but the animal managed to carry the child away into the nearby sugarcane fields.
Upon receiving the information, a joint team from the police and the Forest Department launched a search operation around 3:15 AM. Authorities later recovered the young girl’s body from a nearby field. It was subsequently sent for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to the grieving family for the final rites.
Senior forest officials including Deputy Conservator of Forests Prashant Khade, Assistant Conservator Smita Kulkarni, Assistant Conservator Rajhans, and Forest Range Officer Neelkanth Gawhane—visited the village to inspect the scene, coordinate search efforts, and initiate the government compensation process for the family.
To capture the leopard and prevent further incidents, the Forest Department has intensified night patrolling and deployed camera traps, surveillance drones, and multiple capture cages across the area. Officials confirmed that the intensive search operation will continue around the clock until the animal is successfully trapped.
