Nagpur: Inconsistent Aadhaar Timings at Post Offices Leave Citizens Stranded

Residents in Nagpur seeking essential Aadhaar services—such as address updates, mobile number linking, biometric revisions, and name corrections—at local post offices are facing growing frustration due to unpredictable schedules and inconsistent operational hours. Citizens report being repeatedly turned away and sent back home, as timings vary wildly across different branches—ranging from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at some locations, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at others, and restricted to just a narrow two-hour window of 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at a few.
The Vivekanandnagar post office has emerged as a central point of dissatisfaction for local residents. Visitors initially informed that Aadhaar updates were processed until 2:00 PM arrived during those hours only to find counter staff absent and services completely halted. A subsequent notice abruptly restricted the service timing to 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, catching many who planned their visit around the previous schedule off guard. Additionally, residents noted that the office had recently shifted to a new location without clear public notice, forcing visitors to search for its updated address. Local citizens, including activist Abhishek Gingule, have demanded that every post office prominently display standard operating hours and issue advance notifications before making any schedule changes.
Addressing the issue, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (Nagpur) Sharat Kumar acknowledged that frequent and unannounced timing changes are unacceptable for a essential public service. He stated that the department is seeking a detailed report from the concerned branch to resolve the operational bottlenecks. Kumar also revealed that a official proposal to introduce home-based Aadhaar update services is currently under consideration to ease public convenience and reduce overcrowding at post offices.
