Power Supply Fully Restored to Pune’s Chakan MIDC and Nearby Villages After Four-Day Outage

Pune, Maharashtra — After four days of load-shedding caused by a damaged transformer, power supply to Chakan MIDC and surrounding villages has been completely restored. The disruption originated from a failure of a 50 MVA transformer at the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited’s (MSETCL) 220 kV Chakan Phase-2 substation. The transformer malfunctioned on July 21, impacting not only numerous industries but also approximately 6,500 residential consumers across localities including Varale, Bhamboli, Savardara, Shinde, Vasoli, and Sanggurdi.
To mitigate the crisis during the repair period, Mahadiscom and MSETCL implemented a rotational power supply schedule.Replacement work for the damaged transformer began on July 26, and power briefly resumed on the morning of July 28. Unfortunately, heavy rains that evening caused the transformer to fail again. The repair crew worked diligently and successfully restored full functionality by 12:19 pm on Tuesday.
During the outage, MSETCL managed to divert a 40 MW load to the substation’s second transformer, ensuring power was delivered on a rotation basis. Residential areas were primarily supplied electricity during nighttime hours, while industrial zones received power mostly during the day.
The power disruption impacted several major companies operating in the area, including Tata TACO, GE, Packtime, Emerson, Emitech, Essar, Plastic Omnium, and Bajaj Electricals.Anil Kolap, Chief Engineer at MSETCL, expressed gratitude for the repair team’s efforts, saying, “We worked continuously to fix the fault and restore supply. Thanks to our team’s dedication, we were able to resume normal operations.”
