In a major crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, the Pune excise department seized 1,204 boxes containing 57,792 bottles of Blue Malt whisky, manufactured in Goa. The seizure took place at Veer Phata on the Jejuri-Saswad road on Friday, resulting in the arrest of Dharman Sarang, a resident of Rajasthan, on charges of illegal liquor transport.
Details of the Seizure
The excise department received a tip-off about the Goa-made liquor being transported through Pune. Acting on this information, officials set up a trap and intercepted a container truck at Veer Phata at around 4:00 pm. Upon inspection, they found 1,204 boxes, each containing 48 bottles of 180 ml Royal Blue Malt whisky, totaling 57,792 bottles.Along with the liquor, the authorities seized the vehicle used for transportation and a mobile phone. The estimated value of the seized items is ₹1,15,58,400, according to excise officials.
Official Statements and Investigation
Atul Kanade, SP of Pune Excise, stated, “Based on the tip-off, we intercepted and seized Goa-made liquor being transported illegally. We arrested an individual involved and are investigating further connections related to this case.”The arrested individual was presented in court on Saturday and remanded to police custody for five days.
Ongoing Probe and Public Appeal
Authorities revealed that the liquor was destined for Ahilya Nagar and are now searching for the intended recipient.
