A toxic wave of illicit liquor has completely devastated the Pandharemala area of Hadapsar, Pune, burning multiple families’ worlds to ashes overnight. The sudden deaths of primary breadwinners have left families entirely unsupported, with heart-wrenching stories emerging of children losing their fathers and sisters watching their brothers die right before their eyes.
The Loss of a Lifelong Hustler: Ashok Ramesh Chavan
Among the tragic fatalities is 52-year-old Ashok Ramesh Chavan, a retired bank employee whose family has been thrown into deep grief following his sudden demise during treatment.
- A Life of Hard Work: Ashok was widely respected for his simple lifestyle and hardworking nature. He served faithfully as a peon at Mahesh Bank for 32 years.
- Struggle Beyond Retirement: Even after retiring, he refused to stop working to support his family, taking up a new role as a security guard at the Ganga Residency in Hadapsar.
- The Tragedy: On the night of May 27, Ashok returned home in an intoxicated state. He soon developed severe health complications and was rushed to Sassoon Hospital, where he tragically breathed his last during treatment. He leaves behind his homemaker wife, Sharda, and his son, Yash, who works as a tattoo artist in the Camp area.
A Sister’s Nightmare: The Sudden Passing of Yashwant Pawar
Another devastating loss in Pandharemala is that of Yashwant Pawar, a former employee of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).
Pawar had previously taken voluntary retirement from his job due to severe alcohol addiction and had recently been living with his sister, Kalpana Jadhav. Despite having a loving, smiling family—including his wife, his sons Ajay and Vijay, and his grandchildren—his life remained firmly in the grip of addiction.
His sister, Kalpana, recalled the horrifying morning: “My brother had come home drunk around 8:00 PM on May 26, just like any other day. But when he woke up the next morning, he suddenly started struggling. He began vomiting, foaming at the mouth, and developing a severe rash.”
While the panicked family rushed to get him medical assistance, Yashwant Pawar tragically collapsed and died within moments right in front of his sister’s eyes.
