Pune MSRTC Gears Up for Diwali Rush with Over 600 Special Buses

The Pune division of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced that it will operate more than 600 special buses between November 4 and 7 to accommodate the heavy passenger rush traveling to their hometowns for Diwali. These additional services will depart from key hubs, including Pimpri-Chinchwad, Swargate, and Shivajinagar.
Demand for transport is surging across routes connecting Pune to Marathwada, Vidarbha, Khandesh, and Western Maharashtra. Arun Siya, the divisional controller of MSRTC Pune, explained that a comprehensive management plan has been finalized for the festive season.
- Pimpri-Chinchwad Operations: More than 400 special buses will run from the Pimpri-Chinchwad depot, primarily serving travelers heading toward Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Khandesh. To streamline operations, the corporation has rented a nearby ground to park buses and regulate movement.
- Swargate and Shivajinagar Hubs: Additional services will be managed out of Swargate and Shivajinagar to prevent station congestion.
- Western Maharashtra and Konkan Routes: MSRTC will deploy 200 additional buses from Swargate alone—running alongside regular services—to cover high-demand routes toward Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, and the Konkan region.
Meanwhile, advance reservations for more than 85 regular buses departing from the Pune division have already sold out. This includes 40 buses heading to Vidarbha, 35 toward Marathwada, and 10 toward Western Maharashtra. In response to the high traffic, local depots have been directed to prepare further backups and contingency services to ensure seamless travel for all passengers during the holiday period.
