Pune: Suncity–Karvenagar Bridge Nears Completion, Set to Ease Traffic on Sinhagad Road

A new 279-metre bridge across the Mutha River is expected to open by the end of April 2026, promising relief to thousands of daily commuters facing congestion on Sinhagad Road.Pune, 21 February 2026 — The much-anticipated bridge connecting Suncity and Karvenagar is in its final stages of construction and is likely to be operational by late April. This project, led by the Pune Municipal Corporation, aims to alleviate mounting traffic pressure on Sinhagad Road and surrounding areas.

Designed to reduce congestion on the busy Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road (Sinhagad Road) and the Pune–Bengaluru highway near Warje, the bridge targets heavy traffic jams that thousands of commuters endure daily between Sinhagad Road, Karvenagar, Kothrud, Satara Road, and Katraj, especially during peak hours.Construction began after the work order was issued in May 2023, with groundwork starting in September 2023. Significant structural progress has been made on the Karvenagar side, including completion of pillars, girders, and approach roads.

On the Suncity side, four out of six pillars are complete, with work on the remaining structures and bridge span underway.Officials estimate that the remaining structural work will take approximately two more months. Following this, finishing touches such as approach roads, asphalting, street lighting, stormwater drainage, and footpaths will be completed before the bridge opens to the public. The bridge measures 279 metres in length and 30 metres in width, featuring nine spans.

The approach roads measure 34 metres on the Karvenagar side and 20 metres on the Suncity side. The total project cost is ₹44.86 crore.Once operational, the bridge is expected to ease traffic on Sinhagad Road, Rajaram Bridge, Karvenagar, and the Pune–Bengaluru highway. It will cut travel time between Sinhagad Road and Kothrud and reduce accident risks caused by traffic bottlenecks.

Students, office workers, business professionals, and local residents stand to benefit from improved connectivity and smoother commutes.Dinkar Gojare, Head of the Special Projects Department at Pune Municipal Corporation, stated, “The Suncity to Karvenagar bridge is nearing completion. Construction on the Karvenagar side is finished, and work on the Suncity side is progressing well. We aim to complete the entire project by the end of April and open it to traffic.”
