The Pune Municipal Corporation has announced a complete 24-hour water cutoff starting at midnight on Thursday, April 23, to facilitate urgent maintenance and repair work across the city’s major water treatment plants and pumping stations. Critical work will be conducted at several key hubs, including the Old and New Parvati Water Treatment Plants, Cantonment Water Works, Warje and Vadgaon Water Centres, Bhama Askhed Water Centre, and the Khadakwasla Jackwell. While supply is expected to resume on Friday, April 24, officials have warned that the restoration may be delayed and water will likely be supplied at low pressure initially.
The shut down schedule
The shutdown will impact nearly all major sectors of the city. Areas served by the Parvati tanks, including all central Peth areas, Deccan, Shivajinagar, Swargate, Mukundnagar, Sahakarnagar, Bibwewadi, Kondhwa Khurd, and Salisbury Park, will face disruptions. Similarly, localities under the Vadgaon and Rajiv Gandhi pumping systems, such as Hingne, Anandnagar, Dhayari, Ambegaon, Katraj, the Bharati Vidyapeeth area, Kondhwa Budruk, and Balaji Nagar, will be affected.
Affected Regions
The cutoff also extends to regions covered by the Cantonment and Warje centres, including Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Koregaon Park, BT Kawade Road, Kothrud, Pashan, Baner, Balewadi, Aundh, and Bopodi, as well as the Bhama Askhed supply areas of Lohegaon, Viman Nagar, Vishrantwadi, Yerawada, and Kharadi. Newly merged villages and areas relying on booster systems, such as Nanded and parts of Khadakwasla, should also prepare for disruptions.
The Civic Body Appeal
In light of these repairs, the PMC urges residents to store enough water on Wednesday to last throughout the duration of the shutdown and to use their supplies judiciously. Normal water pressure is expected to return gradually throughout Friday afternoon. Nandkishor Jagtap, Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department, stated that technical teams are working to ensure that all maintenance is completed on schedule to minimize inconvenience to the public.
