Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched the TCS Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab – Lights-Out Factory at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune. Recognized as India’s maiden lights-out factory lab, the new facility is designed to simulate self-optimizing manufacturing environments that run with minimal human intervention. Powered by the proprietary TCS Human+AI Service Autonomy Model, the lab provides a real-world testing ground for advanced industrial automation.
The facility integrates cutting-edge technologies, including digital twins, robotics, industrial AI, factory control systems, and real-time operational intelligence. At the core of the Pune lab is a fully robotic battery pack assembly line featuring multiple production stages. This live set-up allows global manufacturers to prototype, validate, and scale AI-first production models before deploying them on actual shop floors.
A primary goal of the lab is to bridge the gap between theoretical Industry 4.0 concepts and practical daily operations. By offering a controlled environment to simulate complex industrial scenarios, the facility helps enterprise clients mitigate deployment risks and transition safely toward fully autonomous operations.
The Pune center expands TCS’s growing footprint in industrial innovation, following the earlier launch of its Bengaluru lab powered by NVIDIA, which focuses on Physical AI for industrial and mobility sectors. Key use cases tested in Pune include predictive maintenance, automated quality checks, real-time process optimization, and enhanced human-machine collaboration.
Through this initiative, TCS aims to accelerate the future of smart manufacturing by enabling companies to adopt reliable, autonomous factory systems that drive operational efficiency.
