Dahi Handi Rush: Pune Metro Mandai Station Gate Changes and Traffic Advisories Enforced Today
In response to heavy Dahi Handi crowds, Pune Metro has implemented special operational changes at the Mandai Metro Station today, September 5. Entry and exit arrangements at Mandai have been modified from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM to manage pedestrian traffic. Commuters are advised to account for extra travel time due to security checks, ticket scanning, and funneled queue management.
Mandai Metro Station Gate Status for September 5
- Gate 3 (Entry Only): Located near the Lokmanya Tilak statue; operational for incoming passengers from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
- Gate 2 (Exit Only): Located on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road, behind Mandai; operational for outgoing passengers from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Train operations run from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, with headways ranging from 10 minutes during peak hours to 15 minutes during off-peak times. Southbound trains head toward Swargate, while northbound services run toward Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Standard station arrangements will resume on Sunday, September 6.
Traffic Restrictions and Commuter Guidelines
- Road Diversions: Pune Traffic Police have instituted vehicular diversions along Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Bajirao Road, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Road. Road closures will intensify between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM, with major surges expected near Babajan Chowk, Shivaji Market, and nearby lanes.
- Alternate Options: Authorities advise commuters to avoid the Mandai area between 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. During peak station congestion, passengers can walk approximately 1.7 kilometers northwest to Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) station or utilize Kasba Peth station.
- Bus & Pedestrian Movement: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has adjusted several core-city bus routes and interchange points. Pedestrians must follow one-way walking channels and cross streets strictly at zebra crossings. Buying mobile QR tickets via the official Pune Metro app is recommended to speed up entry.
