Digital Terror Hoax Paralyzes Nagpur: 19 Key Institutions Targeted in City-Wide Bomb Threat

A coordinated series of hoax bomb threat emails targeted 19 high-profile locations across Nagpur, igniting widespread panic among students, parents, school administrations, and government officials. The sophisticated threat matrix encompassed 16 premier educational institutions along with three critical civic and judicial hubs: the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) headquarters, the District Court, and the District Collector’s office.

The alarming chain of events began when Delhi Public School detected a threatening email sent from the address hxggzf7@gmail.com. The message explicitly warned of impending explosions scheduled for August 31 and targeted high-profile political and social organizations. It contained provocative remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, while invoking slogans such as “Nagpur Marathi Bolega” and “Khalistan Zindabad.”

Targeted Institutions Across Nagpur

Three branches of Delhi Public School, three branches of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Civil Lines, Pratap Nagar, and Chinchbhuvan), four Kendriya Vidyalayas, two branches of Podar World School, two branches of Centre Point School, Neeri Modern School (Laxmi Nagar), and Mount Litera Zee School. District Collector’s Office, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Headquarters (Civil Lines), and the Nagpur District Court.

The threat triggered an immediate, full-scale security response under the direct leadership of Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, and Cyber Crime DCP Deepak Agrawal. Authorities deployed six specialized Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) units—four from Nagpur City Police, one from Nagpur Rural Police, and one from Railway Police—to sweep the targeted zones.

As panicked parents rushed to campuses, school authorities and police coordinated precautionary evacuations. BDDS teams systematically inspected classrooms, playgrounds, parking facilities, and administrative blocks. Following hours of exhaustive sweeps using specialized equipment and sniffer dogs, officials confirmed that no explosive devices or suspicious materials were present, officially declaring the incident a elaborate hoax.

Cyber crime investigators revealed that the perpetrator utilized a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to mask their true Internet Protocol (IP) address. By routing traffic through foreign servers and frequently changing node locations, the sender deliberately attempted to obfuscate their digital footprint and location.

Despite these evasion tactics, the Cyber Cell is actively pursuing digital trails through server logs, email metadata, and formal information requests to service providers. Investigators are particularly focusing on how the perpetrator compiled a comprehensive directory of specific institutional email addresses across Nagpur, evaluating whether the perpetrator possesses local ties to the targeted schools or administrative bodies.
