Dharampeth and Itwari streets are shimmering with glittering lanterns, decorative lights, and traditional clay diyas, casting a radiant glow over the city as Diwali approaches. While firecracker shops await the weekend rush, festive shopping is already buzzing. The upcoming weekend, starting Friday evening, is expected to draw huge crowds, with Sunday promising the iconic Diwali bustle at Sitabuldi market, Nagpur’s favorite shopping destination.
This year, demand for ‘Made in India’ electric lights and decorations has soared,” shared a local festive décor trader. “A few years ago, Chinese lights dominated, but now buyers are consciously opting for Indian-made products. They may cost a bit more, but they last longer and offer better quality,” he said, proudly pointing to shelves stocked with colorful LED strings and traditional lanterns.
The festive vibe is equally alive at rangoli and earthenware stalls, where shoppers pick vibrant colors and intricate designs to brighten their homes. Vendors report that sales of diyas and handcrafted idols have doubled compared to last year, with a strong preference for eco-friendly options.Meanwhile, firecracker sellers are preparing for their busiest days. Stalls across the city are ready, with sales expected to peak over the weekend.
“The best sales happen just two days before Diwali,” noted a firecracker dealer. “Prices are up about 10% this year, but there’s a wider variety—especially eco-friendly and noiseless crackers—which are in high demand.”As Nagpur lights up for the festival of lights, the glowing streets, sweet aromas, and lively chatter of shoppers herald the arrival of the city’s most vibrant season—a joyous celebration of light, color, and local craftsmanship.
