Nagpur Temple Gate Collapse Injures 17, Three Seriously

Nagpur witnessed a tragic accident on Saturday when part of an under-construction gate at the Mahalaxmi Jagadamba Devasthan temple in the Koradi area collapsed, injuring 17 people, with three in serious condition, officials confirmed to PTI.The incident occurred around 8 pm along the Khaparkheda-Koradi Temple road, where contractors working under the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) were carrying out construction.
According to an official, “Seventeen workers were injured, three of whom are critical. They have been hospitalized. Rescue operations were launched immediately by the police, fire brigade, local volunteers, and NDRF personnel who have also arrived at the site. The operation is being closely monitored by District Collector Vipin Itankar and Deputy Commissioner of Police Niketan Kadam.”Preliminary reports indicate that some workers may have been trapped under the debris, but no fatalities have been reported so far. An eyewitness described the chaotic scene to ANI, saying, “We rescued nine people.
The slab collapsed suddenly, causing people to fall. Many were bleeding and in shock, with several trapped under the debris.”Rescue teams responded promptly, clearing rubble with heavy machinery. Most of the injured—15 to 16 workers—suffered minor injuries and were quickly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, while three were reported in critical condition.
Sanjay Meena, Metropolitan Commissioner of NMRDA, told ANI, “The construction work was ongoing at the Koradi temple site under contractors working for NMRDA. Around 15-16 people were injured, but there are no grievous injuries. They are receiving treatment in hospitals. A detailed inquiry will be conducted to determine how the accident occurred. Thankfully, there have been no casualties so far.”The incident has prompted immediate rescue efforts and an official investigation to ensure safety measures in ongoing construction projects.
