The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the South East Central Railway (SECR), Nagpur Division, has issued a stern warning against the dangerous practice of filming reels or taking selfies on railway tracks. This caution follows the tragic death of a 28-year-old man who was struck by a train while attempting to record a video. Officials emphasized that such actions are not only criminal offenses under the Railway Act, but also pose significant risks to life.Despite ongoing awareness campaigns, there has been a troubling trend among youth to create social media content on or near railway tracks.
Many individuals are seen recklessly crossing tracks, posing for selfies, or filming videos in close proximity to moving trains, endangering their lives as well as the safety of others. This reckless behavior has led to a notable increase in fatal incidents. One such incident occurred on May 15, 2025, between Ghansour and Vineki, a relatively isolated railway section. Akash Rathore, a 28-year-old resident of Kareli in Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly filming a reel on the tracks when train number 68817 approached. Despite repeated horn warnings from the loco pilot, Akash failed to move and was tragically struck.
His friend, Nitin Yadav, rushed him to Ghansour Government Medical Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Following a post-mortem examination, Akash’s body was returned to his family. As of 2025, the SECR Nagpur Division has recorded 97 incidents of individuals being run over by trains. In response to this alarming trend, the RPF has intensified its outreach efforts, especially in rural areas and communities near railway lines. The campaign aims to educate locals about the dangers of unauthorized entry into railway premises and the illegality of filming or taking selfies on tracks.
