With the recent conclusion of the musicial body elections, all eyes is there on the mayor’s seat. The schedule for the special meeting to elect Nagpur’s Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and nominate 16 Standing Committee members has been officially declared. The meeting is set to take place on February 6 at Kavivarya Suresh Bhat Hall, Reshimbag, Nagpur.
- Nomination Submission: The first step comes with the Nomination forms, which are accepted on February 2, between 11 am and 3 pm, at the Panjabrao Deshmukh Hallof the Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
- Scrutiny of Nominations:
Then comes the scrutiny process, which is going to start at 11 am on February 6at Suresh Bhat Hall, immediately after the special meeting commences. Candidates may withdraw their nominations in writing within 15 minutes of the final list of candidates being announced. - In the last step, we have final candidate list coming up which will follow the process of voting. The presiding officer will announce the final candidate list after withdrawals. If voting is necessary, it will start immediately afterward, with results declared by the presiding officer once voting concludes.
Thus with all the above steps coming in perfect order, you will get the mayor of the city. Once the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, they will nominate Standing Committee members proportionate to the elected corporators from different political parties.The term for both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be two-and-a-half years starting from the day they assume office.
