Water Blackout in West Nagpur from Monday: Hundreds of Areas Affected, NMC Faces Backlash

Nagpur residents, brace yourselves for a significant water supply disruption starting Monday, July 21. Hundreds of residential areas in West Nagpur will experience a massive water shutdown due to consecutive repair works by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW). The public’s frustration is mounting—and understandably so.
The first shutdown targets the Rifle Line water system from 10 AM to 10 PM on July 21. During this period, a vital 250 mm water pipeline near Bhole Petrol Pump (RTO Nallah) will be relocated as part of a National Highway Authority project. This “essential” repair will cut off water to neighborhoods such as Ghatate Layout, Maharajbagh, Journalist Colony, MHADA Colony, and Adivasi Bhavan for the entire day.But that’s only the beginning.Adding to the woes, NMC has scheduled a second 24-hour shutdown on the Pench-I LT Feeder, running from 10 AM on July 21 through 10 AM on July 22.
This is to fix a major 600 mm leakage at the Gorewada Water Treatment Plant. This shutdown will impact a vast section of West Nagpur, including Gorewada, Netaji Society, Greenfield, Raj Tower, Zingabai Takli, Babunagar, Adarsh Nagar, and over 50 other localities. What’s more concerning is the lack of backup water supply, water tankers, or any public communication from NMC — leaving residents completely in the dark.Angry citizens are demanding answers. “Why can’t repairs be done in phases?
Why should the entire city suffer?” one resident questioned on social media.Nagpur deserves efficient management, not this chaos. This isn’t just maintenance—it’s mismanagement at its worst. If NMC doesn’t act responsibly, public outcry will only grow louder.Prepare now: store water, share this alert, and demand accountability. This Monday, Nagpur faces a severe water crisis—and no one is prepared.
